Agartala: Sept 03: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu visited the Central Correctional Home in Bishalgarh today, inspecting various facilities and interacting with inmates and officials.
During the visit, the Governor stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness throughout the correctional home and emphasized that Indian jails are now focused on rehabilitation, rather than just punishment. “The goal is to help convicts correct their mistakes and lead better lives,” he said.
The Governor interacted with inmates at the ‘Anand Theatre’ and inquired about their facilities and difficulties. He also met with female inmates and asked about their well-being and that of their children. Inmates presented a memorandum to the Governor, highlighting their concerns.
The Governor was accompanied by senior officials, including IG Prison Ramesh Reddy, Additional District Magistrate Jayanta Dey, District Police Superintendent B.J Reddy, and Jail Superintendent Rakesh Chakraborty.
The Governor’s visit highlights the state’s focus on rehabilitation and correction, rather than just punishment. The Central Correctional Home offers vocational training and other facilities to help inmates reform and reintegrate into society.
