Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Wednesday inaugurated a Tuberculosis (TB) Awareness Workshop under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala, reaffirming the state’s commitment to eliminating tuberculosis through greater public awareness, early detection and community participation.

The workshop was organised as part of the nationwide TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, an initiative aimed at supporting the Government of India’s goal of making the country tuberculosis-free. The programme brought together officials from the Health Department, medical professionals, representatives of various organisations and other stakeholders working in the field of public health.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu highlighted the importance of creating widespread awareness about tuberculosis, one of the country’s major public health challenges. He stressed that timely diagnosis, proper treatment and active public participation are crucial to eliminating the disease.

The Governor said that awareness programmes play a vital role in removing misconceptions and social stigma associated with tuberculosis, encouraging patients to seek medical assistance at an early stage. He urged citizens to actively support the government’s campaign by spreading awareness about TB prevention, symptoms and the availability of free diagnosis and treatment under the National TB Elimination Programme.

He also appreciated the efforts of healthcare workers, doctors, frontline health personnel and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to identify TB patients, ensure treatment adherence and provide necessary support to affected families.

The workshop included discussions on strategies to strengthen TB control measures, improve early case detection, promote nutritional support for patients and enhance community engagement in the fight against tuberculosis. Experts also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among government departments, healthcare institutions and civil society organisations to achieve the objective of a TB-free India.

The TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is a key national initiative focused on accelerating India’s efforts to eliminate tuberculosis through awareness, screening, treatment and public participation.

The inaugural programme at Pragna Bhawan marked another significant step in Tripura’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public health initiatives and support the national mission of eliminating tuberculosis, with the Governor calling upon all sections of society to join hands in building a healthier, TB-free India.
