Governor of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Monday inaugurated the five-day traditional Pitha-Puli Utsav at the Kathalia Class XII School ground in Sonamura subdivision. The festival, now in its second edition, celebrates the rich cultural traditions associated with the Sankranti and harvest season.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that across India, people celebrate the arrival of new harvests with joy, especially in rural areas. Though the names of festivals vary from region to region, he noted, their spirit remains the same—gratitude for nature’s bounty and collective celebration. He mentioned that he had cut short his visit to Andhra Pradesh to attend the Kathalia Pitha-Puli Utsav.
Governor Nallu also praised Tripura’s progress in healthcare, highlighting the upgradation of sub-divisional hospitals and improved care for pregnant women. He said the government supports children from conception through nutrition, vaccination and education under various welfare schemes.
Emphasizing rural development, he urged greater awareness of central schemes, promotion of self-help group products, and adoption of organic farming. Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and former Union minister Pratima Bhoumik also addressed the programme, highlighting inclusive governance and women-led rural entrepreneurship.
Several public representatives and dignitaries were present at the event.
