Agartala: May 03: The Tripura government has introduced the Rah-Veer initiative to encourage timely assistance for road accident victims. Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the program during a review meeting of the Transport Department at Sonar Tori Guest House in Agartala on Saturday. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Secretary of the Transport Department, the Director, and the Traffic SP.

Chowdhury emphasized that many pedestrians hesitate to help accident victims, leading to preventable fatalities due to delayed medical intervention. Studies indicate that receiving medical attention within the Golden Hour—the first hour after an accident—significantly improves survival rates.

To address this issue, the central government launched the Rah-Veer initiative on April 21. Under the scheme, individuals who assist accident victims and ensure their access to medical care will receive financial rewards. The government has assured that helpers will not face legal complications.

As part of the initiative, those who transport critically injured victims to hospitals within the Golden Hour will receive a one-time reward of ₹25,000 along with a certificate of appreciation. If multiple individuals collaborate to save a single victim, the reward will be divided among them. Additionally, each year, 10 Rah-Veer volunteers will be nationally recognized and awarded ₹1 lakh each. A single individual can receive up to five rewards annually.

The initiative aims to foster a culture of prompt assistance and reduce fatalities caused by delayed medical intervention. Authorities hope that the program will encourage more people to step forward and help accident victims in emergency situations.
