Agartala, June 13: Preparations are underway in Tripura ahead of the visit of Dr. Meenesh C. Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), who is scheduled to arrive in the state on June 20. The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to the development of Tripura’s dairy sector and strengthen cooperation between the state government, dairy cooperatives and the NDDB.

In anticipation of the visit, a high-level meeting was convened to review preparations and outline key areas for discussion. The meeting was attended by Ratan Ghosh, Chairman of the Gomati Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited (GCMPUL), members of the union’s board of directors and Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, Director of the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD).

Officials discussed strategies to enhance milk production, improve dairy infrastructure and expand cooperative initiatives across the state. The meeting also focused on aligning Tripura’s dairy development plans with the NDDB’s broader national vision for sustainable and farmer-centric growth in the dairy sector.

Participants highlighted the significant role of dairy cooperatives in supporting rural livelihoods and generating income for farmers. They stressed the need for greater collaboration among stakeholders to improve productivity, strengthen milk procurement networks and ensure better market access for dairy products produced in the state.

Officials said Dr. Shah’s visit would provide an important opportunity to showcase Tripura’s achievements in milk production, cooperative management and dairy development. The state also intends to highlight the progress made by local dairy unions and discuss measures to address challenges faced by milk producers, including infrastructure gaps, marketing constraints and the need for technological support.

The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between NDDB, the Animal Resources Development Department and cooperative institutions to accelerate the growth of the dairy industry in Tripura.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the visit would pave the way for new initiatives, investment opportunities and technical collaborations aimed at strengthening the dairy value chain. They believe enhanced support from NDDB could help boost farmer incomes, improve milk production capacity and contribute significantly to the state’s rural economy.

Dr. Shah’s visit is being viewed as a key step towards advancing Tripura’s dairy sector and creating sustainable opportunities for dairy farmers across the state.
