Agartala, Aug 28 — Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday said that with coordinated efforts and guidance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Northeastern region can emerge as a model in child rights protection for the entire country.

Speaking at the ‘One Day North Eastern Regional Convention on Child Rights’ at Pragna Bhavan, the Chief Minister highlighted that the children of the Northeast are naturally talented and intelligent, and their rights must be safeguarded through collective responsibility.

He emphasized the importance of awareness, capacity building, and community participation in ensuring a child-friendly ecosystem. “Special Juvenile Police Units are active in every district of Tripura to ensure child-friendly procedures during investigation and care,” he said.

To support vulnerable groups, eight one-stop centres are operational in the state for children and women facing violence, with two more sanctioned. Stressing quality care, Saha noted that more than 28 orphan children were adopted through legal systems between 2022 and 2025, while over 2.29 lakh children were covered under POSHAN and Integrated Child Development Services in 2025 alone.

The centrally-sponsored Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman scheme has been providing hot cooked meals in government schools to improve nutrition and attendance. Alongside, the POSHAN Abhiyaan is addressing malnutrition among children, adolescent girls, and mothers with technology and community involvement.

“Children’s rights must be protected at any cost. A child nurtured and protected today will be a responsible citizen tomorrow. Investing in children is investing in our collective future,” the Chief Minister said.

The programme was also attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, NCPCR Chairperson Tripti Gurha, Department Secretary Tapas Roy, and Director Tapan Kumar Das.
