Tripura Deputy Speaker to Attend 69th CPA Conference

Agartala, July 24: In a major initiative to strengthen animal healthcare infrastructure and make veterinary services more accessible, the Tripura Government on Friday launched 50 block-level Mini Mobile Veterinary Units under the Animal Resources Development Department.

Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das inaugurated the fleet at a programme held at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala and flagged off the vehicles, formally launching their services across all blocks of the state.

The event was attended by West Tripura acting Zilla Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, senior officials and nearly 300 officers and employees of the Animal Resources Development Department.

Addressing the gathering, Das said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to delivering modern, efficient and farmer-friendly veterinary services at the doorstep of livestock owners. He expressed confidence that the new units would significantly improve animal healthcare, reduce livestock mortality, increase productivity and enhance the livelihoods of farmers and animal rearers across Tripura.

“The objective is to ensure that quality veterinary care reaches every corner of the state without delay. These mobile units will help farmers access timely treatment and preventive healthcare for their livestock,” the minister said.

During the programme, Das and other dignitaries symbolically handed over the keys of the Mini Mobile Veterinary Units to the drivers, marking the formal rollout of the service.

The minister recalled that the state government had earlier introduced 13 Mobile Veterinary Units to provide emergency veterinary care. Encouraged by the success of that initiative, the government has now expanded the network with 50 additional Mini Mobile Veterinary Units equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities.

Integrated with the 1962 toll-free Veterinary Helpline, the new units will offer a wide range of doorstep services, including treatment of sick animals, emergency veterinary care, vaccination, deworming, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis, disease surveillance and other essential livestock health services.

Officials said the expanded mobile veterinary network is expected to improve access to healthcare for livestock owners, particularly in rural and remote areas, while strengthening disease surveillance and preventive care. The initiative is also aimed at supporting the state’s livestock sector by improving animal health, boosting productivity and ensuring timely veterinary intervention, thereby contributing to higher incomes and sustainable livelihoods for farmers dependent on animal husbandry.
