Agartala, September 24: The number of patients being referred outside Tripura for treatment has declined sharply in recent years, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said on Thursday, attributing the trend to the expansion of healthcare infrastructure and advanced treatment facilities within the state.
Dr. Saha cited figures showing that 555 patients were referred outside Tripura in 2023. The number fell to 495 in 2024 and 366 in 2025, while 161 patients have so far been referred outside the state in 2026.
The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating an Urban Polyclinic at AD Nagar. He also virtually inaugurated new buildings of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs at Radhanagar, Dhaleswar, Jagaharimura, Ujan Abhoynagar and Ramakrishna Shivalaya Ashram.
According to Dr. Saha, around 1,110 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have already been inaugurated across Tripura. These facilities have helped extend primary healthcare services to people in rural and urban areas, allowing residents to access a range of services closer to their homes.
He said improving accessibility to healthcare remains a key priority of the state government and that infrastructure development is being pursued at different levels of the health system.
Dr. Saha said the reduction in outside referrals reflects the growing availability of advanced medical services in Tripura. He added that the government would continue efforts to strengthen facilities for both primary healthcare and specialised treatment.
Emphasising the need for a modern and people-oriented health system, the Chief Minister said healthcare infrastructure would continue to be upgraded across the state to meet the needs of residents locally.
MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Bishal Kumar, West Tripura Chief Medical Officer Shankar Chakraborty, senior Health Department officials, elected representatives and other dignitaries attended the programme.
