Agartala: Feb 06: In a recent development, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education has announced that answer papers can now be written in Roman letters. This decision, communicated by Dr. Dhananjay Ganachoudhury, President of the board, aims to provide flexibility to students during examinations. All examination centers will receive official notifications regarding this change by February 101.

However, it’s important to note that the question paper itself cannot be written in Roman characters due to the existing deadline constraints. The board has already set the question paper in Bengali script, and altering it at this stage is not feasible1.

Earlier this year, a meeting was convened with the in-charge officers from various examination centers in Tripura. The focus of this meeting was to discuss the rules governing secondary and higher secondary examinations. Additionally, the board president instructed the officers to maintain peace and order within the examination centers by promptly informing the nearest police station1.

While the move to allow Roman letters for answer papers has been welcomed, it has also sparked controversy. Tripura Madhya Shiksha Parshad President, Dr. Dhananjay Ganachoudhury, faced allegations of violating students’ fundamental rights by imposing Bengali script for secondary and higher secondary exams. In response, TSF Vice-President John Debbarma filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission and initiated a case at the NCC police station1.

Today, the Tripura Madhya Shiksha Parshad president clarified that while answer papers can indeed be written in Roman letters, the question paper format remains unchanged. The board’s decision aims to strike a balance between flexibility and practicality, considering the existing time constraints.
