Normalcy began returning across Tripura on Wednesday after the Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee (JARC) and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) withdrew their indefinite blockade of national highways and railway lines following assurances from the state government regarding their pending demands.

The agitation, launched in support of a seven-point charter of demands, had disrupted transportation and affected daily life in several parts of the state. Road and rail services remained severely impacted during the blockade, causing inconvenience to commuters, traders, and transport operators. Following a series of discussions between the organizations and government representatives, the protest was called off on Wednesday morning.

Leaders of JARC and JAC announced the withdrawal after receiving assurances from the administration that necessary steps would be taken to address the issues raised by the organizations. They expressed optimism that the government would act on its commitments within a reasonable timeframe.

“We have withdrawn the agitation following positive assurances from the government. We now expect the promised measures to be implemented without delay,” a committee leader said.

The lifting of the blockade immediately restored movement along key transport corridors, including the Barmura region, where traffic had remained affected during the protest. Passenger vehicles, goods carriers, and public transport services resumed operations, easing travel difficulties faced by thousands of people over the past few days.

The shutdown had also impacted business activities across the state, with reports of supply disruptions, delayed deliveries, and shortages of certain essential commodities. Following the withdrawal of the agitation, markets, shops, and commercial establishments reopened, while railway services gradually returned to their scheduled operations.

Residents welcomed the restoration of normalcy, expressing relief over the resumption of transportation and regular economic activities. Many hoped that constructive dialogue between the government and the organizations would help prevent similar disruptions in the future.

Government officials reiterated their commitment to resolving outstanding issues through consultation and engagement. They emphasized that dialogue remains the most effective mechanism for addressing public concerns and finding mutually acceptable solutions.

The withdrawal of the blockade has brought immediate relief to citizens and businesses alike, while placing renewed focus on the government’s next steps in addressing the demands raised by JARC and JAC. Observers believe the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the assurances translate into concrete action on the ground.
