Agartala, June 23: In a bid to engage non-political youth in democratic processes, the Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) will organize Mock Parliament sessions in Agartala and Dharmanagar on June 25 and June 28, respectively.
Announcing the initiative at a press conference on Sunday, BJYM state president and Bishalgarh MLA Sushanta Deb said the event aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national call to involve at least one lakh non-political youths in the political domain. The initiative also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975—a period widely regarded as one of the darkest chapters in India’s democratic history.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the Agartala session at Sukanta Academy on June 25. Tripura BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The second session is scheduled to be held in Dharmanagar on June 28.
Deb informed that around 50 college students will participate in each session. These students will assume the roles of parliamentarians and deliver speeches focused on the 1975 Emergency, simulating the structure and proceedings of the Indian Parliament. The aim is to provide participants with a hands-on understanding of legislative processes and to inspire greater political awareness and civic responsibility.
“The objective is to prepare the next generation of leaders and responsible citizens by introducing them to the workings of a democracy,” said Deb.
BJYM state vice-president Biki Prasad and other party leaders were also present during the press meet. They emphasized that the event is strictly non-partisan in participation, aimed solely at fostering youth engagement in India’s democratic journey.
