Agartala, Aug. 1: In a major initiative to decongest Udaipur town and improve connectivity to the revered Tripurasundari Temple, the Tripura Government has begun the process for constructing a proposed bypass along National Highway-08.

As part of the preliminary exercise, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Saturday conducted an extensive field inspection of the proposed bypass route to assess the feasibility of the project before the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The inspection focused on identifying the most suitable alignment, assessing land requirements, and evaluating the technical and administrative aspects of the proposed road. During the visit, the Minister, accompanied by senior officials from various departments, inspected key locations along the proposed corridor and issued necessary directions based on ground conditions.

The inspection was attended by Public Works Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Chief Engineer (National Highways) Subrata Banik, PWD Chief Engineer Anup Das, Urban Development Director Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Tripura Urban Development Authority Chief Engineer Nitya Kumar Jamatia, officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Additional District Magistrate Subhash Acharjee, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar, and other senior government officials.

Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said that the number of devotees and tourists visiting the Tripurasundari Temple has been increasing steadily, resulting in heavy traffic congestion within Udaipur town. To address future traffic demands, the government has proposed a five-kilometre bypass connecting Bagma to Matabari.

According to the proposed plan, the bypass will pass through Bagma, Tepania, Jamjuri, and the area near Udaipur Railway Station, before reconnecting with National Highway-08 near the Tripurasundari Temple.

The Minister said the project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Udaipur while providing pilgrims and tourists with a faster and more convenient route to one of Tripura’s most important religious destinations.

He added that all technical, administrative and land acquisition-related issues will be thoroughly examined before the DPR is prepared in the coming weeks. Expressing confidence in the project, the Minister said the proposed bypass would greatly improve traffic management, strengthen connectivity to the Tripurasundari Temple, and provide a major boost to tourism and regional development in southern Tripura.
