Agartala, April 28 — Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, founder and supremo of the Tipra Motha Party, on Tuesday met Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu to discuss a range of proposed reforms in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council and to press for pending constitutional demands concerning the Sixth Schedule areas.

In a statement shared on social media, Debbarman said he briefed the Governor on measures needed to revamp and strengthen the functioning of the TTAADC. He highlighted the necessity for administrative reforms aimed at improving governance and ensuring more effective delivery of services in tribal areas.

A key focus of the discussion was the long-pending constitutional demands of indigenous communities. Debbarman pointed out that several provisions and safeguards available to autonomous councils in other northeastern states are yet to be extended to Tripura’s tribal regions. He urged the Governor to intervene in these matters, emphasizing the constitutional role of the office in overseeing Sixth Schedule areas.

“It was a pleasure interacting with him, and I sought his intervention in several issues as he is the custodian of the Sixth Schedule areas,” Debbarman stated.

The meeting comes at a time when discussions around administrative empowerment and structural reforms in the TTAADC have gained momentum. The council plays a crucial role in governing tribal-majority regions, and demands for greater autonomy and enhanced constitutional protections have been a recurring issue in the state’s political discourse.

Later in the day, Debbarman also chaired a meeting of the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the party, in Agartala. Addressing party workers, he reiterated that the party’s core mission extends beyond electoral politics.

“Elections are part of the democratic process, but our ultimate goal was, is and will always be to serve our people. Our commitment goes beyond politics,” he said.

The Tipra Motha Party continues to advocate for greater constitutional safeguards, political rights, and socio-economic development for the indigenous communities of Tripura.
