Agartala, Aug 8, 2025 — Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen has undergone a successful brain surgery after suffering a sudden health emergency on Friday.
The incident occurred while he was en route to Dharmanagar by train. Upon reaching Agartala Railway Station, Sen collapsed in the station’s washroom and lost consciousness. He was immediately rushed to Tripura Medical College, where doctors, after conducting a medical examination, detected internal bleeding in his brain and advised urgent surgery.
Following the recommendation, Sen was transferred to ILS Hospital in Agartala for specialised treatment. A team of neurosurgeons carried out the critical procedure, which doctors later confirmed to be successful.
Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the hospital soon after the Speaker was admitted, to personally assess his condition and speak to the attending medical team. He later informed the media that Sen’s surgery had gone well and that his condition was now stable.
“Doctors have confirmed that the operation was successful. He will be kept under close observation for the next 72 hours to monitor his recovery,” said the Chief Minister.
The news of Sen’s sudden illness and subsequent surgery has sparked concern across Tripura’s political circles and among the general public. Messages of goodwill and prayers for his speedy recovery have poured in from leaders across party lines, as well as from citizens who regard him as an experienced and respected figure in state politics.
Medical officials have stated that further updates on his health will be provided after the observation period. Meanwhile, security and administrative arrangements have been strengthened at ILS Hospital to ensure smooth treatment and privacy for the patient and his family.
