Agartala, Sept 04: The Tripura Assembly witnessed a heated debate and a walkout by opposition members on Wednesday, September 4th, over a congratulatory motion to commend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third consecutive term.
The opposition, led by CPI(M) and Congress, objected to the motion, stating that the Business Advisory Committee had not discussed it and they had not been consulted or given their consent.
Despite the objections, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen proceeded to read the motion, leading to opposition members storming into the well of the House in protest.
The Assembly hall turned chaotic, with treasury benches chanting slogans in support of Prime Minister Modi. The opposition members continued their protest and eventually walked out of the Assembly.
Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury stated that the opposition did not agree with the content of the congratulatory motion and that it should not be passed without consensus.
The treasury benches celebrated Prime Minister Modi’s historic achievement, with Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ratan Lal Nath emphasizing the significance of the event.
The disagreement over the congratulatory motion disrupted the Tripura Assembly proceedings, highlighting the deep divisions between the ruling party and the opposition.
