Agartala: August 28: In the wake of heavy rainfall and landslides, all local and special train services in the state faced disruptions from August 21st until 2 pm on August 22nd. However, there’s good news: rail, road, and air services are currently operating normally.
Transport Secretary C.K. Jamatia made this announcement during a press conference at the secretariat on Wednesday. While the Agartala-Sabrum DEMU local train service remains affected, all other train services have resumed. Efforts are underway to swiftly restore the Agartala-Sabrum rail service, with expectations that it will be operational within the next two days.
The railway track suffered damage at 3-4 locations between Shanti Bazar and Garji. Dedicated railway engineers are diligently repairing the track. Additionally, regular rakes continue to arrive at Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Jirania railway stations, transporting essential goods such as food grains, cement, rods, and petroleum fuels on a daily basis. There’s no cause for panic, as sufficient stock of essential commodities and fuel is available in the state.
At the MBB Airport, 30 flights take off and land daily. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, an Indigo ATR 72 aircraft departing from Kolkata for Agartala on August 21st could not land. Additional Secretary Subrata Chowdhury from the concerned department was also present during the press conference.
