Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Tuesday said that any official response to the recent remarks made by former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) current state of affairs should come from the party’s top state leadership rather than from ministers or spokespersons.

Speaking to reporters, Roy maintained that Bhoumik is a senior BJP leader who has held several important organisational and governmental positions. He said it would be appropriate for the party’s highest leadership in the state to address her observations, as the matter falls within their jurisdiction.

“The person whom you are referring to is a senior leader. She had been a Union Minister. She previously served as the General Secretary and Vice President of the Pradesh BJP. Any reaction to her statements should come from the party’s top leadership rather than the spokespersons and ministers,” Roy said.

The Minister added that commenting on the issue was beyond his prerogative and refrained from making any further observations on the matter.

The statement comes in the wake of remarks made by Pratima Bhoumik during a recent podcast, in which she expressed disappointment over the party’s present functioning. Bhoumik alleged that many grassroots workers who had struggled and worked tirelessly to ensure the BJP’s electoral success in Tripura were now being sidelined.

Her comments have sparked political discussions within the state, with observers closely watching whether the party leadership will formally respond to the concerns raised by the former Union Minister.

Bhoumik has been one of the BJP’s prominent faces in Tripura, having served as a Union Minister and held several key organisational responsibilities in the party. Her remarks have drawn attention because of her long association with the BJP and her role in strengthening the party’s organisational base in the state.

While Roy chose not to comment on the substance of Bhoumik’s observations, he reiterated that it is for the party’s senior leadership to clarify its position.

The BJP leadership has not yet issued an official response to Bhoumik’s remarks. Political observers believe any statement from the state leadership may help address the concerns raised and provide clarity on the party’s organisational direction in Tripura.
