New Delhi, Sep 7: Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Thursday met Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi for a detailed discussion on the preservation and promotion of the state’s iconic heritage site, Unakoti.

During the meeting, Roy underlined the immense cultural, historical, and tourism significance of Unakoti, known for its ancient rock carvings and spiritual legacy. He emphasized that the development of this site could not only boost heritage conservation but also generate livelihood opportunities for local communities while positioning Tripura more prominently on India’s tourism map.

Further discussions covered practical infrastructure needs such as better parking arrangements, improvement of entry gates, widening of approach roads, provision of safe drinking water, installation of streetlights, and construction of toilets to make the destination more visitor-friendly.

According to Roy, the Union Tourism Minister listened carefully to all the concerns and assured full cooperation from the Centre. Shekhawat reiterated that the central government remains committed to supporting Tripura’s efforts in preserving Unakoti’s heritage while also ensuring sustainable tourism development.

Roy expressed confidence that with combined efforts, Unakoti will emerge as a world-class heritage and spiritual tourism destination, benefiting both Tripura and the country.
