Social Welfare, Social Education and Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Thursday inspected the long-pending Srirampur-Golakpur road under the Chandipur Assembly constituency in Tripura’s Unakoti district and said construction work is expected to begin shortly.

Roy inspected the road in the morning along with officials of the departments concerned and reviewed the problems that have delayed the project for several years.

Speaking after the inspection, the minister said the tender for construction of the road had been issued several years ago, but the project could not be completed. He alleged that negligence on the part of the contractor, along with obstacles created by certain politically influential individuals, had resulted in the prolonged delay.

Roy said legal complications related to the project had now been resolved and the state government had once again given its approval for construction of the road. With the necessary clearances in place, work is expected to commence soon.

The minister said the government was also planning to construct drains on both sides of the Srirampur-Golakpur road. The drainage system is aimed at preventing waterlogging, particularly during the monsoon, and protecting the road from damage caused by accumulated rainwater.

During the inspection, officials and local residents discussed issues related to the proposed construction. Roy said residents had been consulted and requested to extend the necessary cooperation to ensure that the project could be implemented smoothly and without further delays.

The Srirampur-Golakpur road has remained a matter of concern for residents and commuters for a considerable period, with its condition causing difficulties in local movement. The renewed government approval has raised hopes that the long-delayed project will finally be completed.

Local residents welcomed the development and expressed hope that construction would begin at the earliest. They said completion of the road would bring relief to commuters and improve connectivity in the area.

The inspection comes as the state government seeks to address pending infrastructure projects and improve road connectivity across different parts of Tripura.
