Agartala, August 24: Tripura’s Minister for Transport, Sushanta Chowdhury, on Sunday emphasized the crucial role of the Indian Building Congress (IBC) in infrastructure development and nation building. He was addressing the 19th Annual General Meeting of the IBC, held at the PWD office’s conference hall in Agartala.

The AGM was followed by a technical seminar on “Environmental Hazard on Buildings and Its Living Conditions and Remedial Measures to Combat Such Threats in the 21st Century,” jointly organized by IBC (Tripura chapter), the Public Works Department (PWD), and the Rural Development Department.

Speaking at the event, Chowdhury noted that infrastructure development goes beyond just construction and plays a vital role across all sectors. “Infrastructure is important in every field. It is not limited to buildings and roads alone,” he stated.

He also expressed concern over the current state of India-Bangladesh relations, which, according to him, has adversely impacted critical infrastructure projects in Tripura. “Due to the strained ties, infrastructure projects worth thousands of crores at Nischintapur and Sabroom have come to a standstill,” he said.

Chowdhury lauded the Central Government for its focused approach toward the North East’s development. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming the “Look East Policy” into the more action-oriented “Act East Policy,” which he said has significantly accelerated development in the region.

The meeting was attended by Indian Building Congress National President Chinmoy Debnath, along with other key representatives of the IBC Tripura chapter.

The event served as a platform for discussions on modern infrastructure challenges and environmental threats impacting building safety and living conditions, with experts suggesting effective remedial measures.
