The unexpected visit came after complaints surfaced regarding the hostel’s food management. During the inspection, the minister interacted directly with resident students, encouraging them to speak openly about their concerns and share their experiences regarding the hostel’s facilities and services. He also held discussions with the hostel authorities and sought a detailed explanation regarding the allegations.

Expressing concern over the complaints, Debbarma instructed the concerned officials to launch a fair, transparent and comprehensive investigation into every aspect of the matter. He emphasized that the inquiry should be conducted without bias and that prompt corrective measures must be taken wherever shortcomings are identified.

The minister made it clear that the state government would adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards negligence or malpractice affecting the welfare of students. He warned that if the allegations are substantiated during the investigation, stringent action would be initiated against those found responsible in accordance with the law.

Later in the day, Debbarma extended his inspection to the Bodhjung ST Boys’ Hostel and the ST Girls’ Hostel at Women’s College in Agartala. During these visits, he reviewed the overall living conditions, infrastructure, sanitation, security arrangements, food services and day-to-day management of the hostels.

The minister interacted with students at both institutions to understand their needs and gather feedback on the facilities available. He directed officials to identify areas requiring immediate attention and assured that necessary improvements would be undertaken to create a safer, cleaner and more supportive residential environment for tribal students.

Addressing officials after the inspections, Debbarma stressed that ensuring quality accommodation and essential facilities for students remains one of the government’s highest priorities. He remarked that every initiative aimed at improving students’ welfare represents a long-term investment in developing a skilled, educated and confident generation.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening hostel infrastructure and safeguarding students’ well-being, the minister said the administration would continue monitoring hostel facilities across the state to ensure transparency, accountability and quality standards are maintained.
