Agartala, Nov 7: A tragic accident occurred near the Amtali Bypass area on Friday when a private school bus belonging to Monfort School (registration no. TR01F4324, Bus No. 2) lost control and met with an accident along the National Highway. Several school students were reportedly injured in the mishap.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was carrying students to school when it suddenly veered off the road and crashed along the highway. Panic spread among local residents as they rushed to rescue the injured children trapped inside the vehicle.
Following the incident, the bus driver fled from the spot, leaving behind the damaged vehicle and frightened students. Locals immediately informed the police and emergency services, after which the injured were rushed to Hapania Hospital for medical treatment.
Local sources reported that some of the injured students sustained minor injuries, while a few were seriously hurt and are undergoing treatment under medical supervision. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be officially confirmed, though preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding or loss of control might have led to the crash.
Police personnel from Amtali Outpost and the National Highway patrol team reached the site soon after receiving information. The bus has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway to trace the absconding driver and determine whether negligence or mechanical failure was involved.
Parents and residents expressed concern over the safety standards of school transport systems, urging authorities to take stricter measures to ensure the safety of students commuting daily.
