The Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) on Tuesday organised a state-level workshop at Pragya Bhavan to enhance understanding, coordination and convergence among departments involved in the implementation of the multi-sectoral project.

The workshop was inaugurated by Minister for Tribal Welfare Bikash Debbarma, who emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts for achieving inclusive and sustainable development in tribal and rural areas of the state.

According to a press release, the workshop aimed to familiarise officers and stakeholders with the fundamentals of multi-sectoral project planning, execution and inter-departmental convergence under TRESP. Officers from key line departments, including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD), Fisheries, Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), Education, Public Works Department (PWD) and the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), participated in detailed deliberations on their respective roles and mechanisms for collaboration.

Special emphasis was laid on the livelihoods sector, with presentations highlighting challenges, progress achieved so far, best practices and successful field-level interventions. The discussions underscored the need for coordinated action to maximise the impact of livelihood activities in tribal-dominated areas.

On the occasion, laptops were distributed to TRESP staff by the minister to strengthen project implementation and monitoring capacities.

Senior officials, including Director Shubhashis Das, Secretary Dr Shashi Kumar and T K Chakma, IAS, shared insights into the project’s vision, objectives and implementation framework. Technical sessions were conducted by Chief Operating Officer Gajendra Verma, Institution Building Specialist Sonali Laskar and GIS Specialist Naorem Singhjit Singh, who outlined implementation strategies, targets and monitoring mechanisms.

In his inaugural address, Minister Bikash Debbarma appreciated the efforts of officers and project staff and urged them to continue working with dedication towards improving livelihoods, education and connectivity in tribal regions.

TRESP is a World Bank-funded project with a total outlay of Rs 1,400 crore, being implemented from March 2024 to June 2029 across three key sectors—Livelihoods, Education, and Roads and Connectivity. Under the livelihoods component, the project is currently operational in 23 tribal-dominated blocks across eight districts of Tripura.

The workshop highlighted significant progress in the formation of producer groups, expansion of livelihood opportunities, and advancement of infrastructure and education-related interventions under TRESP.
