Agartala: February 27: The state government has reported a substantial 16.07% surge in GST (Goods and Services Tax) collection this fiscal year. As of January 2024, the state’s coffers have received a total of Rs 3,303.58 crore in GST revenue, compared to Rs 2,846.31 crore during the same period in 2023.
Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, addressing the media during a press conference at the Secretariat, shared these figures. The increase in GST collection reflects the combined efforts of both the state and central authorities.
In addition to GST, the state’s revenue stream includes other significant components. Here are the key highlights:
The state has collected Rs 327.90 crore in excise duty as of January 2024, marking a 10% growth from the previous year’s Rs 298.08 crore. The collection from motor vehicle tax stands at Rs 108.69 crore in January 2024, showing a 13.09% increase compared to Rs 96.11 crore in January 2023. The state’s sales tax collection has risen by 16.50%, reaching Rs 428.32 crore in January 2024, up from Rs 367.67 crore in January 2023.
As of January 2024, the state’s overall revenue tax collection amounts to Rs 2,656.86 crore, reflecting a 7.81% growth from the previous year’s Rs 2,464.45 crore. The state has also witnessed a 7.24% increase in non-tax revenue collection, with Rs 337.28 crore recorded in January 2024, compared to Rs 314.50 crore in January 2023.
Furthermore, the Finance Secretary highlighted recent administrative developments, including the appointment of 10 Lower Division Clerks (LDCs) in the Directorate of Treasury through the JRB. Additionally, 23 Senior Computer Assistants are slated for recruitment via the TPSC, and efforts are underway to fill 32 non-technical vacancies across various departments within the Treasury Department.
