South Tripura Hosts TB Mukt Panchayat Programme to Boost Inter-Departmental Action Against Tuberculosis

Agartala, February 13: A programme focused on strengthening efforts to eliminate tuberculosis under the “whole-of-government approach” was held in South Tripura district on Wednesday, with officials emphasising coordinated action and enhanced public awareness to achieve a TB-free region.

The event was organised under the TB Mukt Panchayat campaign as part of the national TB Mukt Bharat initiative. It took place at the conference hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s office in Belonia at 11.30 am and brought together representatives from health, administrative and local self-government bodies.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Medical Officer of South Tripura, Jyotirmoy Das, stressed the importance of collective and coordinated measures across departments to accelerate the eradication of tuberculosis. He underlined that sustained awareness campaigns, early detection, and community participation are essential to strengthening public health interventions and ensuring treatment adherence.

District Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta highlighted the critical role of local bodies in supporting healthcare initiatives at the grassroots level. He called for active involvement of Panchayati Raj Institutions and urban local bodies in spreading awareness and mobilising communities.

Among urban representatives present were Nikhil Chandra Gop, Chairperson of Belonia Municipal Council, and Sapna Baidya, Chairperson of Santirbazar Municipal Council. Administrative participation included Deputy Collector Binoy Das, while Shambhunath Kar represented Panchayati Raj institutions.

District TB Officer Bitan Sengupta attended on behalf of the Health Department. Officials reiterated that coordinated governance and sustained public engagement are key to achieving the goal of a TB-free South Tripura.
