The appointments were announced through an official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India. The promotions have been carried out under the provisions of the Indian Administrative Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955.

According to the notification, the selected officers will be inducted into the IAS against vacancies determined by the Government of India. They will be allocated to the Tripura cadre and will remain on probation until further orders are issued.

The six officers elevated from the Tripura Civil Service to the IAS are Sarmistha Datta, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Dr. Samit Roy Chowdhury, Akinchan Sarkar, Sumit Lodh, and Rajesh Kumar Das.

The official order, issued from New Delhi on May 25, mentioned that the appointments were made in consultation with the Tripura government. However, the promotions are subject to the final outcome of ongoing legal proceedings relating to seniority and promotion matters.

Among the pending cases is a seniority-related issue currently before the Supreme Court. Another matter linked to promotion to the IAS cadre in Tripura is being heard by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Guwahati Bench.

Officials stated that the promotions represent an important step in strengthening the state’s administrative machinery by bringing experienced officers from the state civil service into the IAS framework. Such promotions are considered significant as they recognize long years of administrative service and provide officers with broader responsibilities in policymaking and governance.

The induction of these officers is expected to further improve administrative coordination and governance delivery in Tripura, particularly at a time when the state continues to focus on development and institutional strengthening across sectors.
