Announcing the decisions after the state cabinet meeting on Monday, cabinet spokesperson and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said all state government offices will now remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays with immediate effect. The move marks a significant change in the working schedule of government departments in the state.

The government has also revised office timings for all working days. Under the new arrangement, government offices will function from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. Alongside this change, the roster-based work-from-home system for Group-C and Group-D employees has been withdrawn.

Chowdhury said the decisions were taken considering the prevailing global situation and as part of broader austerity measures aimed at improving administrative efficiency and reducing operational costs. As part of these measures, nearly 75 percent of government meetings will now be conducted virtually to minimize expenditure and streamline functioning.

He further stated that the government will give priority to the purchase and outsourcing of electric vehicles in the coming period as part of efforts to promote sustainable practices and reduce fuel-related expenses.

The cabinet also approved recruitment for 81 vacant positions across the Public Works Department (PWD), Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department, and Finance Department.

According to the minister, 26 Lower Division Clerk (LDC) posts under the PWD will be created and filled through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT). Out of these, three positions will be reserved for ex-servicemen.

Additionally, 50 vacant posts under the ICA Department will be filled through direct recruitment. The positions include Translator, Reporter, Script Writer, Cultural Assistant, Assistant Photographer, Folk Artist, Assistant Librarian and Lower Division Clerk posts.

The council of ministers also approved recruitment of five Inspectors of Small Savings under the Finance Department.

Replying to questions from reporters, Chowdhury assured that the state currently has sufficient stock of fuel and essential commodities, dismissing concerns regarding shortages.
