Agartala: Feb 02: In a tragic incident, a shop owner identified as Samrat Debnath allegedly killed an employee named Sayan Bhowmik during a heated dispute over a love relation. The incident unfolded in the bustling Amtali market area, situated near the Agartala-Sabroom national highway and falling under the jurisdiction of the Amtali police station.
According to reports, the disagreement between Samrat Debnath and Sayan Bhowmik escalated rapidly. What began as a verbal altercation soon turned violent. In a fit of rage, Samrat Debnath reportedly attacked Sayan Bhowmik with both a knife and a tire lever. Tragically, Sayan Bhowmik succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Local shopkeepers attempted to intervene, but their efforts were thwarted by fear, as Samrat Debnath brandished a sharp weapon. After receiving the information, law enforcement rushed to the scene. The dead body of Sayan Bhowmik was recovered and transported to Hapania Hospital. Meanwhile, Samrat Debnath was apprehended, and the murder weapon was seized.
Dr. Kiran Kumar, the Superintendent of Police for West Tripura District, along with SDPO Prosun Kanti Tripura, swiftly arrived at the Amtali police station to oversee the investigation. Both officials are currently interrogating Samrat Debnath.
Details have emerged that Sayan Bhowmik hailed from the Bishalgarh Durgapur Shibnagar area, while Samrat Debnath resided near the Hapania Medical College Hospital.
The police have formally registered a murder case against Samrat Debnath and are diligently probing the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Samrat Debnath is scheduled to appear before the West Tripura District and Sessions Court on Saturday.
In the wake of this heart-wrenching loss, the family of Sayan Bhowmik has called for exemplary punishment for the accused. The community remains in shock as they grapple with the aftermath of this senseless violence.
