Agartala: August 19: A wave of shock and anger swept through GB Hospital in Agartala late Monday night after the sudden death of Tapan Mia, a resident of Dashamighat Joynagar, who was admitted with chest pain.

According to family members, Tapan was brought to the hospital late at night after he complained of severe discomfort. He was admitted and, after initial treatment, appeared to be improving. Relatives said he was sitting up, speaking, and showing signs of recovery.

However, the situation changed drastically when the on-duty doctor administered an injection. Within moments, Tapan collapsed and was declared dead. His family alleged medical negligence, questioning the type and content of the injection given. They demanded a thorough investigation and strict action if any lapse is confirmed.

Tapan’s wife expressed her anguish, saying, “We have dealt with similar health problems earlier and treated him successfully at private clinics. But since it was late, we came to GB Hospital, the biggest in the state. Due to the doctor’s negligence, my husband is no more.”

Relatives and locals who gathered at the hospital demanded accountability from the authorities and clarity on the circumstances leading to Tapan’s death. They said transparency about medical procedures and better patient care is essential to restore public trust in government-run hospitals.

The incident has once again raised concerns over patient safety and medical protocols at GB Hospital, which has faced similar allegations of negligence in the past. Calls for a high-level inquiry have grown louder, with citizens urging the state government to ensure strict monitoring of healthcare practices.

As the news spread, unrest prevailed at the hospital premises, highlighting the urgent need for systemic reforms in public healthcare to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
