A suspected sex racket was busted in the Shiv Bari area of Dharmanagar on Thursday, creating a stir in the locality. Acting on long-standing suspicions, vigilant locals caught two youths and a married woman red-handed inside a residential house allegedly being used for immoral activities. The trio was later handed over to the police for further investigation.
Local residents stated that the house had been under observation for the past few months due to the frequent visits of unidentified individuals, particularly young men. Suspicion grew over time as reports circulated that the premises were being used for illicit purposes. Despite several warnings and concerns raised by the community, the activity reportedly continued unchecked.
On Thursday, locals noticed two Muslim youths entering the house under suspicious circumstances. They were identified as Husain Miah and Karim Miah. Notably, Husain Miah is the son of local BJP leader Makaddas Ali. The third person found inside was a married woman named Sagarika Debnath.
After confirming the presence of the individuals inside the house, residents surrounded the premises and detained all three. Police were immediately informed and arrived at the scene to take custody of the suspects.
A resident of the area expressed concern over the incident, stating that such immoral activities cannot be allowed to continue in a residential neighborhood. “This has a negative influence on the children and youth of the locality. It’s our responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy environment,” he said.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are expected to question the individuals involved. Further action will be taken based on the findings. The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over unlawful activities in residential areas and the importance of community vigilance.
