Sepahijala, Tripura: Tension gripped the polling station at Jaharjala Senior Basic School in Dayal Para ADC Village under Boxanagar constituency after reports of violence and political controversy emerged during the voting process.
Supporters of Tipra Motha alleged that Tofazzal Hossain, the BJP MLA from Boxanagar, was physically present at the polling booth along with his supporters. The presence of a political leader inside or near a polling station during voting hours has raised serious concerns among opposition parties and local residents.
According to the allegations, at least six crude bombs were hurled in the vicinity of the polling station, creating panic among voters and disrupting the otherwise peaceful polling atmosphere. While no immediate reports of injuries have been confirmed, the incident triggered fear among those present, with several voters expressing reluctance to continue participating in the process.
Tipra Motha supporters claimed that the incident was a deliberate attempt to intimidate voters and influence the outcome of the election. They further alleged that such acts undermine the democratic framework and discourage free and fair participation in the electoral process.
Local residents also voiced deep concern over the situation, stating that violence of this nature erodes public confidence in elections. Many urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible and to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
In response to the situation, a large number of police and security personnel have been deployed at the site to bring the situation under control and maintain law and order. Officials are closely monitoring the situation, and efforts are underway to restore normalcy and ensure that voting continues without further disruption.
