Agartala: In a significant development, Tripura Police had invoked SC ST atrocities (Prevention) Act against self styled journalist Saikat Talapatra, who had been under police custody since October 06 after being charged in multiple cases. Speaking on the issue, Special Public Prosecutor Samrat Kar Bhowmik said, “The accused Saikat Talapatra had been produced before the learned Court in connection with five cases against him. A new case was lodged against the accused person under SC ST prevention act. The case has been filed by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman”. Speaking more about the contents of the case, the senior advocate said, “The case was filed against two or three video publications in the social media news platform owned by Talapatra. So far we have analyzed the videos, the kind of language used there is not at all news. The video also contained derogatory and insulting comments against the indigenous communities of Tripura. Some videos are also detrimental to the brotherhood between tribals and non-tribals”. The Court had sent the accused for six days police custody. The next hearing of the case has been fixed on November 02 next.
