Agartala: A team of eight participants from PG and NFC groups under Rajnagar RD Block in South Tripura successfully completed an exposure visit to Kollam district, a region widely recognised for its robust cashew processing industry. The initiative was aimed at strengthening livelihood opportunities and promoting women-led enterprises in Tripura through hands-on learning and industry exposure.

During the visit, the delegation toured several self-help group (SHG)-managed cashew processing units and gained first-hand experience of the complete production cycle — from processing raw cashew nuts to preparing finished, market-ready products. The participants closely observed modern machinery used for roasting, shelling, peeling, and grading of cashew kernels. They were also introduced to essential quality control systems and hygienic practices that ensure adherence to industry standards and enhance product value.

In addition to technical know-how, the programme provided insights into enterprise management, cost efficiency, and sustainable business practices. The team interacted with successful SHG entrepreneurs to understand strategies for market linkages, branding, and value addition. Special emphasis was laid on packaging techniques and presentation methods that improve competitiveness in both domestic and wider markets.

Officials accompanying the team noted that the exposure visit would play a significant role in empowering local SHGs in Rajnagar RD Block. The knowledge and practical experience gained are expected to help them adopt improved processing methods, enhance productivity, and diversify income-generating activities.

The visit also highlighted the immense potential of cashew processing as a sustainable livelihood avenue, particularly for women entrepreneurs in Tripura. By connecting grassroots groups with established models in Kerala, the initiative is set to facilitate the replication of best practices and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the region.
