On the early morning of October 13, Sunday, Samarjit Chowdhury, a resident of Madhupur, allegedly murdered his wife Tanushree Acharya and mother-in-law Soma Acharya by stabbing them with a knife in the ONGC Netaji Nagar area. The police arrested Samarjit from Madhupur in connection with the incident. Today, locals and family members protested in front of the court demanding the death penalty for the accused.

Speaking to journalists, the deceased’s younger sister stated that Tanushree Acharya had been subjected to physical and mental torture since her marriage. She alleged that her husband, Samarjit Chowdhury, used to beat her mercilessly. To save her from the torture, her mother, Soma Acharya, had brought her home. For this reason, Samarjit Chowdhury allegedly murdered them both by stabbing them with a knife on the early morning of October 13. The protesters have gathered in front of the court today demanding strict punishment for him.
