Agartala: April 02: In a press conference at the Agartala Press Club, the “United Progressive” team, along with their candidates for the upcoming election, outlined their vision and plans to enhance the welfare of journalists and members of the press club. The key promises made by the team include a comprehensive range of support services and initiatives aimed at improving the professional and personal lives of journalists.
One of the major announcements was the introduction of group insurance for all press club members, ensuring financial security in case of sudden illness or accidents. Additionally, the team committed to facilitating EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) and ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) for journalists working in the media, in collaboration with the relevant government departments.
In an effort to further support journalists, the team proposed the establishment of an ambulance service within the next six months for the club’s members, as well as the introduction of leg pitkars for media workers. To ease the financial burden on journalists, the team vowed to push for a 25% discount on electricity bills for every media office.
Another significant proposal was the distribution of press cards to eligible journalists within the next three months, along with efforts to increase the number of accreditation cards across news media. They also promised to raise funds for women journalists and set up an auxiliary committee to oversee the welfare of female press workers.
The “United Progressive” team emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of prominent journalists by setting up a hub gallery and publishing an informational magazine. They also planned to honor journalists through annual awards for academic achievements and contributions to various fields.
The team also proposed hosting a variety show every six months and installing marble statues of martyred journalists Sudip Dutta Bhowmik and Shantanu Bhoumik in front of the press club.
With these initiatives, the “United Progressive” team seeks to strengthen the press club’s role, prioritizing intellectual growth and unity over personal wealth and divisiveness. Their slogan: “One Club, One Family” encourages a sense of community and support among journalists.
