Agartala, June 17: Tipra Motha Party chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Monday made a clarion call to the indigenous farming community of Tripura, urging them to form a separate farmers’ organization aimed at branding, marketing, and promoting their agricultural produce both nationally and internationally.

In a public statement, Debbarman appealed for the creation of the Tripura Indigenous Farmers’ Association, a platform he believes is essential for empowering tribal farmers who, according to him, are among the most exploited in the country.

“I urge all indigenous farmers of Tripura to unite and form the Tripura Indigenous Farmers’ Association. Through this, we can brand, market, and sell our indigenous products like bamboo, oranges, arecanut, mangoes, and pineapples across India and the world,” he said.

Debbarman emphasized the high quality of agricultural produce from the state, lamenting that despite their potential, indigenous farmers remain underrepresented in broader markets and often face exploitation by middlemen and larger market forces.

“We have some of the best produce in the country, yet our farmers are among the most exploited. I firmly believe that to rise as a community, we must empower our farmers economically by taking our produce from local to global,” he added.

He also stressed that this new body would help streamline the process of branding and establishing market linkages, which in turn could significantly boost the income and living standards of tribal farmers.

The appeal is seen as a strategic move to create economic self-reliance within tribal communities and promote indigenous identity through agriculture. The proposed farmers’ association is expected to push for better market access, government support, and global visibility for tribal produce from Tripura.
