Agartala: Nov 08: A gang of thieves disguised as customers stole bags of rice from various markets and shops in Agartala city. For 10-15 days, some shopkeepers had been reporting the incidents to the NCC police station in Agartala. Finally, the NCC police managed to arrest the thieves.
On Friday, the Officer – in- Charge of NCC Police Station, Sushanta Deb, provided further details about a series of thefts in Agartala where a group of thieves disguised as shoppers stole bags of rice from various shops and markets. The thefts had been taking place over the past two weeks, with several shopkeepers reporting stolen goods to the police. The thieves, using the cover of being regular customers, would enter different shops and markets, carefully picking up bags of rice and leaving without raising suspicion.
Shopkeepers initially found the thefts difficult to track, as the thieves were blending in with other shoppers. However, after receiving multiple complaints, the NCC Police station intensified their investigation, working closely with local markets and using CCTV footage to identify suspicious activities.
According to Sushanta Deb, the police were able to identify the suspects based on their movements and behaviors. After narrowing down the list of suspects, a well-coordinated operation was conducted to catch the thieves in the act. The police arrested a group of four individuals involved in the thefts.
Upon questioning, the thieves admitted to their involvement in the crime and revealed that they had been stealing rice to sell it at lower prices in the black market. The police have recovered a significant amount of stolen rice and are now investigating whether there are any further individuals or gangs connected to these thefts.
Sushanta Deb assured the public that the police are taking strict action against the culprits and that further security measures are being implemented in local markets to prevent such crimes in the future.
