Itanagar/Agartala, Sep 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22 after completing a two-day tour of Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam, officials said on Tuesday. The visit will combine major infrastructure launches with a spiritual stop at one of India’s most revered Shakti Peethas.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister will unveil projects worth several thousand crores. At a public gathering in Itanagar’s Indira Gandhi Park, he will lay the foundation stone for the ambitious 1,830-km Frontier Highway project, two hydroelectric projects, and launch Phase II of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP). He will also virtually inaugurate an integrated convention centre at Tawang.

The Frontier Highway, running parallel to the McMahon Line from Bomdila in West Kameng to Vijaynagar in Changlang, is expected to boost national security and strengthen border connectivity. Modi will also lay foundation stones for the 186-MW Tato-I and the 240-MW Heo hydroelectric projects on the Yarjep River in Shi Yomi district.

Phase II of the Vibrant Village Programme will bring all-weather roads, 4G networks, and electrification to 122 border villages, including 67 along the India-Myanmar border and 55 near the India-Bhutan border. The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned ₹2,205 crore for this phase, part of a broader ₹6,839 crore scheme extending across 16 states and Union Territories until FY 2028–29. The programme aims to improve living standards in border villages, provide livelihood opportunities, curb trans-border crime, and strengthen local participation in national security.

Officials said preparations in Itanagar, including road beautification and stage construction, are in full swing, with security tightened ahead of the visit.

Later the same day, the Prime Minister will travel to Tripura. Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed that Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur, Gomati district, around 65 km from Agartala. The 524-year-old temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, has been renovated under the Union Tourism Ministry’s PRASHAD scheme at a cost of over ₹52 crore, with the Tripura government contributing ₹7 crore.

After inaugurating the temple and offering prayers at the adjacent Kali temple, Modi will return to Agartala and then depart for Delhi. No public address is scheduled during his Tripura visit, officials said.
