Tripura has registered exceptional progress under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), with almost every applicant successfully cleared through the eKYC verification process. The data reflects an impressive stride toward universal health coverage in the state.

As of Thursday afternoon, 22,24,995 residents had applied for eKYC authentication. Of these, 22,24,878 applications were approved, while only 36 were rejected and 81 remain pending. Although 572 cases have been marked as delivered, officials clarified that physical PVC card distribution has not yet commenced in Tripura because no agency has been empanelled for the task.

The scheme has achieved notable outreach among Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). A total of 13,958 individuals from 12,444 families applied, with 13,882 approvals granted and just 76 applications still pending. Frontline healthcare and welfare workers have also seen strong inclusion. Among ASHA, Anganwadi and Anganwadi Helper (AWH) staff, 32,897 applications were submitted and 32,889 were approved.

Building and Other Construction Workers represent another major beneficiary group. Out of 85,978 applications received from 35,048 families, 85,952 have already been sanctioned. Senior citizens aged above 70 years have likewise witnessed near-complete coverage, with 50,770 approvals recorded against 50,773 applications.

At the national level, the scheme has generated 35.69 crore Ayushman cards over the past five years and authorized 5.77 crore hospital admissions in private hospitals, incurring expenditure of Rs 1.15 lakh crore. These figures were shared in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav.

Tripura’s performance underscores a determined push toward inclusive healthcare access, even as logistical issues such as card distribution await resolution.
