The national-level SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2026 became a moment of pride for Tripura as two Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Unakoti district — Sunali SHG and Mandira SHG (Sanjog Canteen) — captured widespread attention with their innovation, skill, and authentic flavors.

Sunali SHG drew significant appreciation for its eco-friendly handcrafted products made from water hyacinth. Transforming the aquatic plant into beautifully designed utility items, designer bags, and decorative handicrafts, the group showcased how sustainable practices can merge seamlessly with fine craftsmanship. Visitors from various states admired the durability, aesthetic appeal, and environmental consciousness reflected in their creations. The stall remained abuzz with buyers keen to support green entrepreneurship and rural artisanship from Tripura.

Equally impressive was Mandira SHG, which operates the popular Sanjog Canteen. The group emerged as a star attraction at the mela’s Food Court with its delectable “Tripura Special Thali” and the much-loved traditional “Bangui Chicken.” The rich indigenous flavors and homely preparation style resonated strongly with visitors seeking authentic regional cuisine. One guest, Sanjoy Kumar, praised the dishes for their “delicious taste and uniqueness,” reflecting the broader appreciation the stall received throughout the event.

The participation of these SHG Didis at such a prestigious national platform highlighted not only Tripura’s vibrant cultural and culinary heritage but also the growing confidence and entrepreneurial spirit of rural women from Unakoti district. Their success story at SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2026 stands as a testament to the transformative impact of self-help groups in fostering financial independence, sustainable livelihoods, and women-led development across the state.
