Agartala: Dec 21: Opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury made a strong statement in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in Parliament regarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Choudhury said that regardless of the position someone holds, if their mind harbors both good and bad thoughts, those negative thoughts will eventually come to the surface. He referred to Shah’s comments in Parliament about Ambedkar and questioned the sincerity of the Home Minister’s actions.
Choudhury reminded everyone that when India adopted its Constitution and the Tricolor national flag, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) vehemently opposed both. The RSS had refused to recognize the national flag and the Constitution, even advocating for a change in the Constitution to align with their ideology, which was based on “Manusmriti,” a text that contrasts with the values enshrined in India’s Constitution. Choudhury pointed out that the current Home Minister, Amit Shah, was once part of the RSS, highlighting a contradiction between his present actions and his past stance.
He further criticized the BJP-led central government for using Ambedkar’s image and praises as a mere political tool to attract votes, calling these gestures artificial and aimed at misleading the public. According to Choudhury, these are just superficial acts, not genuine efforts to honor Ambedkar’s legacy.
Choudhury also commented on the functioning of the Parliament, pointing out that the session, which was supposed to run until the 25th of December, was abruptly adjourned. He claimed that this indicated the RSS’s fear of healthy and constructive discussions.
Referring to the situation in Tripura, Choudhury highlighted the tendency of RSS supporters in the state to resort to violence and intimidation when they disagree with something. He noted frequent incidents of vandalism and bullying, which he argued were part of a strategy to silence opposition and create fear among the people.
