Agartala: Dec 21: Opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury has criticized the use of funds from the North Eastern Council (NEC) for organizing promotional festivals and setting up de-addiction centers in Tripura. Speaking to the media, Choudhury expressed his concerns that the focus of the NEC, originally established for developmental activities in the North Eastern region, has shifted. Instead of addressing critical infrastructure and developmental issues, the funds are being used for events like fairs and creating centers to combat substance abuse, which he views as ineffective.

Choudhury further pointed out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Tripura under the guise of the NEC meeting is aimed at repairing the weakened BJP organization in the state. However, he firmly believes that such efforts will not yield positive results. According to Choudhury, the people of Tripura are well aware of the situation and are not easily fooled by the government’s actions. He emphasized that the people are ready to fight for their rights and will not be swayed by what he described as superficial measures.

This response highlights the ongoing dissatisfaction among opposition leaders regarding the current government’s approach to development in Tripura, particularly the utilization of NEC funds for events that they consider to be inconsequential to the state’s real needs. Choudhury’s remarks reflect the growing political tension as the state prepares for future electoral battles.
