Agartala: June 11: In a significant step toward promoting awareness and addressing the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, a one-day seminar was held today at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Tripura. Organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, this event marked the first of its kind in the state.
The seminar drew notable participants, including Tapas Roy, the department secretary, Lalfakthalinga, the department director, R Giriraj, deputy director of the National Institute of Social Defense, and Neha Gupta Roy, a member of the TG Welfare Board. Sneha Gupta Roy, also a member of the Tripura Transgender Welfare Board, emphasized that this gathering was a milestone, as it occurred after the board’s formation.
The primary objectives of the seminar were twofold: to enhance educational awareness within society and to address the diverse challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. Attendees expressed enthusiasm and excitement, underscoring the importance of such initiatives in fostering understanding and inclusivity.
