Agartala, September 24: North Tripura’s water conservation efforts received a national platform on Thursday as District Magistrate and Collector Chandni Chandran presented three district-level initiatives at the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026 in New Delhi.
Speaking at the Practitioners’ Forum on Best Practices at Bharat Mandapam, Chandran outlined how the district is combining administrative measures with community participation and private-sector collaboration to improve sustainable water management.
One of the initiatives presented was the Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra, launched by the district administration to strengthen conservation activities through greater involvement of local communities.
The Vanghmun rainwater harvesting saturation initiative was another focus of the presentation. The community-led programme aims to achieve wider coverage of rainwater harvesting and encourage residents to take an active role in conserving water resources.
Chandran also highlighted the springshed management programme in Jampui and Damcherra blocks, which is being implemented under the leadership of CML and Tata Trusts. The initiative is aimed at conserving and managing spring-based water sources in the hilly parts of the district.
Together, the three initiatives reflect a convergence model that brings government interventions, community-led action and private-sector support into water conservation efforts.
The district administration said sustained collaboration among government departments, communities and private organisations would be essential to maintain conservation initiatives and ensure responsible management of water resources.
The presentation also showcased North Tripura’s efforts to address local water-related challenges through integrated planning and participatory conservation practices.
