North East Council Plenary Meeting to Commence in Agartala

Agartala: Dec 19: A plenary meeting of the North East Council (NEC) is set to take place in Agartala, Tripura, starting on December 21. The meeting will be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and will involve the Chief Ministers and Governors of all eight northeastern states. To ensure security, extensive arrangements have been made throughout the state, with Agartala being heavily secured.

State Governors and Chief Ministers attending the NEC meeting will be staying at the Polo Tower in the capital city. Tripura’s Director General of Police, Amitabh Ranjan, stated that the responsibility for security in the state lies with the BSF, CRPF, Assam Rifles, state police, and TSR personnel, with nearly 10,000 security personnel deployed across the state. Around 7,000 security personnel will be stationed in Agartala city. He further mentioned that the majority of the meetings will take place in Agartala, with one meeting set to be held at the Ambassa Bru refugee camp. Security arrangements have been put in place for this location as well.

According to sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the Bru refugee camp to assess the current situation, listening to the people’s concerns regarding their conditions and various issues.

The plenary meeting will focus on several crucial matters, including border security in the northeast, internal security, and overall regional issues. Additionally, discussions will cover the agreements between the central and state governments over the past few years, with a focus on strengthening the integration of the northeastern states with the rest of the country. The government’s goal is to enhance connectivity and development in the northeastern region.
