Agartala, June 21, 2025 — Former Chief Minister and sitting MP from West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency, Biplab Kumar Deb, has sanctioned ₹53 lakh from his MP Area Development Fund for the construction of an indoor Yoga stadium in the Nalchar Assembly Constituency. The announcement was made during the International Yoga Day celebration held at the historic Neermahal palace.

Local MLA Kishore Barman, who attended the event alongside Deb and Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, expressed his gratitude to the MP for approving the proposal. “I am thankful to my elder brother Biplab Deb for considering my request and sanctioning ₹53 lakh for this significant project. This stadium will offer a dedicated space for Yoga practice and awareness in our region,” Barman said.

Addressing the gathering, MP Biplab Deb emphasized India’s spiritual identity and how Yoga symbolizes the country’s cultural depth. “India is globally recognized for its spirituality. Yoga is not just a practice—it is the behaviour and identity of our nation,” Deb stated. He recalled that in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea of International Yoga Day at the United Nations, which received support from 177 out of 193 countries—an achievement that brought global recognition to Yoga.

Deb highlighted how Yoga has evolved from a religious perception to a universally accepted health practice. “Even in countries like Saudi Arabia, Yoga is now gaining popularity due to its immense health benefits,” he noted.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath also underscored the potential of Yoga in combating drug abuse. “Yoga can be a powerful antidote to drug addiction. If promoted strategically, it can help purify both body and mind and reduce substance abuse,” he said.

The event showcased Tripura’s growing commitment to integrating Yoga into public health and lifestyle.
