Agartala, September 10, 2024: MLA Sudip Roy Barman has criticized Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Dev Barman and the government over the recent announcement of a special package for extremist organizations. Speaking at a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Tuesday, Barman accused Debbarma of misleading the Tiprasa people for personal gain.

Sudip Roy Barman highlighted that the central and state governments recently announced a package of ₹250 crores for two extremist organizations following meetings in Delhi. He pointed out that no similar package has been provided for those displaced by extremist activities, either by the previous Left Front government or the current BJP-led government. He argued that this demonstrates the government’s indifference to the affected people.

Barman also criticized Chief Minister Manik Saha for announcing a ₹564 crore package for flood victims without consulting the Council of Ministers, calling it illegal and irregular. He demanded clarification from the cabinet members on this matter.

Furthermore, Barman raised concerns about the lack of financial assistance from the central government following the recent floods, which caused an estimated loss of ₹14,247 crores. He noted that the ₹40 crores announced by the Union Home Minister is part of the annual allocation for natural disasters and not additional aid. He also criticized the government for not declaring Tripura a national disaster area despite the significant damage.

Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha was also present at the press conference.
