Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday underscored the urgent need for rainwater conservation, urging citizens to adopt proper and sustainable methods to preserve this vital natural resource. He was speaking after inaugurating multiple development projects under AMRUT 2.0 at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan premises in Agartala.
Dr. Saha highlighted that one of the core objectives of the state government is to improve the quality of life for the people of Tripura through consistent and impactful development initiatives. The newly inaugurated projects of the Tripura Jal Board, implemented under the Urban Development Department in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, mark a major milestone in strengthening the state’s urban infrastructure.
He emphasized that the government is steadily working toward making Agartala an environment-friendly and citizen-friendly city. As part of this vision, similar urban development and water supply enhancement plans are being considered for 19 other Nagar Panchayats and urban areas across the state.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of new drinking water connections in 16,224 households across various AMC wards. These connections have been made possible through the expansion of deep tubewells, installation of modified and package-type iron removal plants, and laying of approximately 206 km of pipelines. Dr. Saha noted that these measures will significantly improve access to clean and safe drinking water for thousands of families.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Municipal Corporation Central Zone Chairman Ratna Dutta, Urban Development Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, Tripura Jal Board CEO Mihir Kanti Gop, along with other public representatives and senior officials.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the government will continue implementing people-centric projects to ensure sustainable urban growth and enhance public welfare across Tripura.
