Agartala, June 17: In a vibrant celebration of Tripura’s agricultural richness, the Mango & Pineapple Festival—an initiative by NABARD-Tripura—was inaugurated on Tuesday at Children’s Park in Agartala. The two-day event, organized by the Voluntary Health Association of Tripura (VHAT), aims to promote locally grown fruits and empower the state’s farming community.

Minister for Tribal Welfare Bikash Debbarma inaugurated the festival and praised the farmers for their remarkable ability to produce high-quality mangoes and pineapples. “The farmers of Tripura have consistently proven their excellence. Their produce not only meets but often exceeds expectations in terms of quality,” said Debbarma.

He emphasized that such events create vital platforms for farmers to connect directly with consumers and potential buyers, helping them earn better value for their produce. “This festival will not only increase public awareness about local produce but also project Tripura’s agricultural capabilities to a broader audience,” the Minister added.

Debbarma also lauded the efforts of the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, which he said have been instrumental in supporting farmers with modern techniques, training, and access to resources. “The income of farmers is closely tied to the state’s economic development. Boosting their earnings means strengthening our economy,” he noted.

Highlighting the role of NABARD, Debbarma acknowledged the institution’s continued support for agricultural growth and rural livelihoods in the state.

The festival saw enthusiastic participation from farmers across Tripura, who showcased a colorful variety of mangoes and pineapples. Visitors had the opportunity to taste and purchase fresh fruits directly from the growers, further strengthening the farm-to-market link.

The event reflects a growing movement to support sustainable agriculture, empower local farmers, and make Tripura’s premium fruits known on national and global platforms.
