Legal services stop minor marriages

Agartala, August 31: On the initiative of the North Tripura District Legal Services Department, a minor marriage was stopped in Ichailalchhara village panchayat area under Kadamtala police station.

Published in the news on 28th August, through a confidential source, a law servant of the North Tripura District Legal Services Department received information that preparations were underway for the marriage of a minor girl in Ichailalchhara village panchayat area under Kadamtala police station.

After getting information about the incident, the law officer of North Tripura District Legal Service Department contacted the Dharmanagar sub-divisional administration and the law officer (PLV) along with the Dharmanagar sub-divisional administration and Kadamtala police station rushed to the spot and after talking to the guardians of the minor, the marriage was stopped.

The guardians of the minor give written assurance not to marry their minor daughter till the minor reaches adulthood. On behalf of the North Tripura District Legal Services Authority, it has been said that such child marriages will be monitored in the coming days and legal awareness camps will be organized in the area.
